Horror in the fog
Murky water sloshed and foamed across the closed portholes of the ship. The tips of its sails nearly brushing her neighbour the spray of foam from the flag ships immense stern and rudder raining over the deck of her eager follower. The ships pulled East together, their sails spread like proud canopies gleaming with the light of the wide blue moon in the clear night sky. The enormous flagship cut the waves with its colossal nose and figurehead; a warrior maiden etched in the likeness of a half remembered, long ago saint bearing the waves as they came. Perched in the crows nest, a sharp eyed sailor scanned the waves for reefs and rocks with keen eyes squinting through the salty haze while the air and sea whistled and sprayed in hissing tones upon the decks of the ships moving swiftly over and through them. The captain of the flagship leaned upon the foreyard rail with his own gleaming glass surveying the starboard horizon away from the moonlight for any sign of sail or fin. The seas
